Many of you may not be aware of the upcoming events for the week ahead. Let me begin by saying that this could very well end up being referred to as "That WEEK in February of '07."
It reminds me of a board meeting that I attended in Johnstown about 21 years ago for a non health care, nonprofit organization. At that dinner meeting in a prominent Johnstown restaurant, some of the members who had never had a drink at a board meeting enjoyed wine with dinner, and others who had typically had several drinks, because they had to drive long distances that evening, had decided to refrain from any consumption of the grape. It ended up being a totally unpredictable meeting. Votes were taken on issues that had all been relatively predictable, but due to the consumption or lack of consumption of mind altering fluids, none of the votes ended up as predicted. We still refer to that meeting as "That Johnstown Meeting of '86." It virtually changed the course of that particular non profit's future. What a night.
No, alcohol will not be involved, but there are some potential things that may happen that could be even more significant than that. First and foremost, we are planning to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center on Friday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Our special guests that day are, of course, Mr. and Mrs. Murtha. There is, however, a not-so-slim chance that we may end up hosting another special guest who will most assuredly attract the national press. We'll know on Monday if she is able to come, but, believe me, her presence along with the Murthas could put us firmly into the national spotlight. No, it's not Jennifer Aniston, but, if she's available, that would work, too.
We plan to make several major announcements at that event that are potentially of international significance, and we will have our partners, scientists, and clinicians present for further support. It will either be held both inside and outside of the Breast Center in a heated tent, or, depending upon the weather, in a snow fort in the parking lot.
Finally, on a personal note, we have been named by the Penn's Wood Council of the Boy Scouts of America to receive their Distinguished Citizen Award this year at their annual dinner on Thursday evening, the anniversary of my father's birth. It's obviously a great honor to be included on this list of local leaders, but, most importantly, it was an opportunity to help to provide support to an organization that can have such a wonderful impact on the future of so many young lives. They had a great committee that did tremendous work for this project.
So, stay tuned as we move into the future with these announcements and potentially life-changing improvements for health care as we currently know it.
