Writer's BLOCK
After a year of blogging for both Windber and Hospital Impact, my muse is gone. You know, my muse . . . In Greek mythology, the Muses (in Greek: Μουσαι, Mousai : from a root meaning 'mountain') are nine archaic goddesses who embody the right evocation of myth, inspired through remembered and improvised song and traditional music and dances.
I'm not perfectly sure where she went, but, clearly, she is G-0-N-E.
Earlier tonight I had written an entire blog about my week-end with my grandson in a park in Virginia about 20 minutes from Washington D.C. It was a boys' trip: Dad, Uncle and Pop, and my plan was to do a comparison between camping when I was a kid and camping now. Then, we would examine how the easy life has taken us over, made us soft and, overweight, but it really wasn't where my heart was.
The blog was all about having a concierge deliver our already cut firewood to the campsite. It was about a public bathroom that was 29 feet away from our campsite that had ceramic tile walls and floors, and infrared sensors on the sinks to start the water without touching the handles. It was all about rib eye steaks on the grill, a Swiss Army tent that slept eight, and all kinds of gadgets: phone chargers, special lights and cooking stoves, self-inflating air mattresses, ultra light-weight sleeping bags that are good for 40 degrees below zero, and the like.
But, I accidentally hit a delete button, and it was all gone. Thank goodness. The weekend was fun, really fun, but the topic was boring.
So, I just don't know what to write about this week. I could write about six employees located on both sides of the street who have been given the power to change history and haven't, but that one's too personal. So, I'll pass on that topic, too.
My deep desire was to have written something that would have rocked your world, but I'm sure that the words will flow when my muse comes back. But, for tonight, you're off the hook.
This week, we have two different strategic planning sessions, one on Monday and the other on Friday. We have an Executive Committee meeting Tuesday, Conemaugh Health System Leadership on Wednesday, a visit to Johnstown from the Governor on Thursday, a visit from the OB/GYN student from Carnegie Mellon that we are mentoring in hospital administration, and on Wednesday, my brother is having surgery.
That's really why I lost my muse. I'm sure he'll be fine, BUT I don't like anyone messing with my brother. So, if you don't mind, how about a prayer or three?

Yours is more like a camping that we do in scouting. I've had many such camps where we gather, wood to construct gadgets and cook food. Scouting is fun. Self concierge or self service. Whatever you call it. You get to learn so many things.
