When we bought our new house, I asked the seller if winter in this particular development was as bad as people had told us. His response was that "There are only about four or five days a winter that are a challenge." So, after this week, we only have ONE MORE BAD DAY TO GO! :-)
What was the first red flag? On October 5th a crew from either PennDot or Adams Township put a snow fence up a few yards from our property. A snow fence. When was the last time you saw a snow fence erected on a regular basis? When was the first time you saw snow fence placed NEAR YOUR YARD?
The second red flag? The second red flag was the trees. There are no serious trees in the development, and the ones that do exist are bent to the right. That is, they are growing toward the road. Normally, when you see trees that are growing crooked it's because they are looking for sunlight. Well, our trees are bent because of the wind.
I'm glad the kids are grown. If they were still in school, we'd have to be extremely careful that they would face one way on the way to school and the opposite way on the way home so that they didn't grow up bent.
The third red flag? The driveway is shoveled by someone who doesn't ever shovel driveways, ME. It takes an hour. Ten minutes later, it is blown shut.
Fourth red flag? The road? It's gone. The road is gone. I get in the Jeep to drive to the hospital to wish everyone there a Happy Thanksgiving, and when I turn right, the road is gone. It's completely gone. There are no signs of a road: no asphalt, no concrete, no lines, no signs. It's completely gone.
Fifth red flag? The dog won't go outside . . . FOR ANYTHING.
Okay, let's be honest... We have moved to Siberia. I think I saw the Northern Lights tonight. It's the Arctic Express. The wind blows so hard here that you can't carry the newspaper into the house. It blows away.
It's now 12 degrees below zero wind chill factor. The lights keep going on and off, and the electric lines are under ground. Hey, and the snow plow has a SNOW BLOWER on the front, but the main road is still covered in snowdrifts.
I think I saw penguins tonight, and one very white polar bear. Okay, maybe it wasn't a polar bear. Maybe it was a snow bear.
So, Happy Thanksgiving, and, if you need a place to freeze stuff, anything, just put it on my roof rack!

Thanks for taking the time to record your thoughts...I look forward to your blogs.
